Personal Evaluation/SWOT Analysis

In this module (NSD), I need to understand what skill do I have and what skills I need to understand in order to complete the project. For personal evaluation I have to do a SWOT (Strength, Weakness, Opportunity and Threat) analysis. The analysis will help me to know gap between my skills and the skills that I need to accomplish the project. Thus, the SWOT analysis will be done later in this project.

Assessing my Skills

Based on my skill audit I got to know that, most of the skills I have were technical skills. Having a background in Information Technology, I had gained technical skills through the courses and from job life. Some of the skills I have are

1.     Graphic Designing

2.     Web Site Designing

3.     Programming

4.     Databases, etc.

Besides this I’m also interested in creative activities and combining it with my technical skills to accomplish the tasks in an effective, managed and creative way. Some of these skills are

1.     Brand Identity Design

2.     Strategic Design

3.     Colour Psychology

4.     Research, innovate and find possible alternate solutions, etc

The skills that I already have are very important to complete the project that I’m going to do for this module. For example, In order to design a website my skills on HTML5, CSS3 and bootstrap will help me a lot. Although these skills are important, I was curious and always wanted to learn more about branding, strategic thinking, colour psychology, etc. Because the fusion of these skills with my existing skills will help to have better professional success.

And implementing both of these skills will also be valuable in better professional work i.e. If I implement the knowledge of colour psychology, branding and strategic thinking with the web design skill, then it’ll help me to build a website that will not only look amazing but will achieve the organizational goals as well.

SWOT Analysis

The following SWOT Analysis is specifically related to the project I’m doing for Negotiated Skills Development i.e. Implementing Strategic Design Process in Website Design.

STRENGTHS ·      Knowledge in Graphic Design: I can use the tools used in Graphic Design like Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. And also have some experience on image manipulation, logo design, business cards and brochure design, digital designs for social media, etc. ·      Knowledge in Web Design and Development: As a student from IT background, I’ve strong knowledge in programming (like PHP, Asp.Net, C#, etc.), databases (MS SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, etc) and website design (HTML, CSS and Bootstrap). Also have some working experience in related field. ·      Quick Self Learner: Most of the things, I like to learn by myself. I don’t like to be dependent more on others. But I’ll ask for help with teachers and friends if needed. One thing I love about self-learning is that I can learn on my own pace. For this I will search for contents either on google or YouTube or on Online Courses.

WEAKNESSES ·      Get Bored Quickly: Challenges excites me whereas the repetitive tasks bore me quickly. Besides this, failure to continue in learning also disinterest to learn new skills. ·      Procrastination: When I estimate a time and start a project, the long duration makes me to procrastinate and start or continue working later on deadline. Though most of the time I complete the project on time, it adds lots of stress in me, which could be removed if I had done on time. ·      Time Management: Along with student life, job life and friends & family, it’s really difficult to manage time to learn new things that’s important in upcoming projects.

OPPORTUNITIES                                                                                           ·      Job Role/Promotion: Learning this skill and completing a project by implementing the skills learned will help me to get a leading role in a creative agency or an IT company. ·      Personal Portfolio Development: Besides Job role and promotion, it’ll also help me to strengthen my personal portfolio which will be helpful for my professional career. ·      More Research and Online Tutorials: It’ll help me to research about the new things, trends and keep me UpToDate. ·      Get to meet new people and mentors: Along with the personal and professional benefits, it’ll also let me know the people who have advanced in this field and also help me to find my mentors.

THREATS ·      New Trends and Change in Technology: In designing, the trends are developed rapidly and the technology also changes swiftly. So, it also poses a threat that there might be a change in trend and the design might be outdated. ·      Time Consuming: Designing a brand and implementing is a time-consuming process, so the identity designed this time might not work in later days.
